Chapter 13

This chapter is about when the losers club met Mike. Mike was being chased by Henry Bowers and a bunch of his friends, just because he was black. The losers club was playing in the Barrens when the chase started outside of Henry's farm. Mike paced himself all of the way into town before running to the train yard by way of the road where Bill and Richie had seen the werewolf. Mike ran pass the train yard and into the coal pit beyond the tracks. The losers club decided to blow up some fire crackers in the gravel pit next to the Barrens. It just so happened that Henry had some firecrackers in his pocket and he was going to shoot them off in the pit also. Until he found Mike that is. Mike gathered up some coal and started throwing them at Henry. His first throw was a direct hit to Henry's forehead but the second and the third missed. That gave Henry enough time to light a cherry bomb and chuck it at Mike. It exploded right next to Mike's face but he didn't flinch. His next throw hit Henry right in the throat. Mike scurried over the fence and ran to the gravel pit where the losers club was playing. He ran up to the group who had gathered a bunch of rocks on instinct. Mike ran up to Bill and asked him for help. Mike was about to ask for what but then Henry and his goons climbed over the hill. There was a brief rock fight in which everyone got injured at least once, but the losers club drove back Bowers and his gang. After they left the group accepted Mike with no questions. The club was complete!

I think it's really neat that the kids act the way they do its as if they are the opposite of what they really are, when they are kids they act like grown-ups and when they are grown up they need to act as kids to find out what happened to them

Chapter 12

In the beginning of this chapter Bev's ex-husband went to Bev's friends house to ask her where Bev had went, and he wasn't afraid to use force. When the poor girl had opened the door he just decked her right in the face. She screamed and ran away, and he chased he to the back of her house where he threw her on the floor and jumped on top of her. He grabbed a vase and broke it and waved it in her face and asked her where Bev was. She told him that Bev had gone back to Derry for a promise that she had made with her friends a long time ago. Bev's husband waved the vase in Bev's friend's face again and told her, if she told the police that he had been to her house he would come back and kill her.
Henry Bowers lay awake in his cot in the insane asylum in Augusta. He was talking to the moon, and the moon started talking back! The clowns face appeared in the moon and told Henry that he had to kill the people that had returned to Derry. Henry told him that he couldn't get out of the asylum, but the clown said he would send help. Later that night Henry heard some creaking under the bed. Out from under the bed came his old friend Belch. Henry noticed he was still wearing the same pair of jeans he was wearing on the day he died in 1958 (The year was 1985 now) He gave Henry a switch blade and told Henry that he would take care of the guard so Henry could get out. Henry got up from his bed and started walking toward the door. Another inmate, who had killed his mom, woke up and saw his mother walking with Henry towards the door. He started screaming and freaking out. The guard came running into the room yelling at everyone to be quiet and what he saw would've scared him to death if it hadn't killed him so quick anyway. It was in its clown suit but it had on a doberman pincher head, the only dog that the guard was afraid of.
Bill's wife, Audra got on a plane against Bill's wishes and flew to Derry to see if Bill was alright. She told her boss that she was leaving and got on the next intercontinental flight from London to Bangor, Maine. She stayed in the motel right next to the one that Bev's husband was staying at. They parked right in front of one another.
This is getting very exciting. I like this book a lot better than the movie. Its cool to see what the characters are thinking not just what they are doing like on the movie screen.

Derry: The Third Interlude

This journal entry was Mike was talking to the general store manager about The cycles that seemed to follow It. The manager, Mr. Keene, agreed with Mike that the cycles happened about every twenty seven years. Keene said that the cycle would start with a big event and it would also end with a big event, before It went back to sleep. The many events that ended the cycles was the fire at The Black Spot, and a factory had blown up while an Easter Egg hunt was happening inside. One specific event that started one of the killing cycles was the shooting of the Bradly brothers. The Bradly brothers were on the FBI's most wanted list and The citizens of Derry wanted to take matters in their own hands. Mr Keene said that he grabbed his gun because he heard the brothers and their posse were traveling through town. Everyone cleared the streets as angry citizens grabbed their guns and hid on the main street. Soon the Bradly brothers drove through town. The citizens opened fire on them and killed them both. Mike asked if Mr. Keene had seen anybody that he didn't know shooting at the brothers. Mr. Keene said that he had and asked Mike how he Knew about the clown. Mike told him calmly that he had heard it from someone else. Mr. Keene also said that other people had seen the clown but everyone saw him in a different place. Mr. Keene had seen him standing down the street, but one of his friends had seen him shooting out of a window. And he meant literally out of the window. The clown was totally outside floating in mid air!
I think this book is very good so far. It goes into a lot of detail and tells the reader things that they necessarily dont need to know but its almost like you are wathing a second version of the movie. The movie follows the book very loosely. The base is the same but many of the scenes and details are left out of the movie.

Chapter 11

This chapter is about what the group does when Mike tells them to walk around town. It starts out as telling Ben's story. Mike told everyone to act on intuition, so Ben told his taxi driver to stop at random and got out. He walked down the street to his favorite place of the town when he was a kid: The library. He started walking through and everything was just as he remembered it, even the curfew sign was still there. Ben decided to get a library card to have something that he could remember Derry by, but as he was signing up for the card, Pennywise the Clown appeared on the upper balcony. It started calling for Ben to come up the stairs but Ben ignored It. When Ben turned around to leave It had left its calling card, a yellow balloon was tied to the railing of the balcony. Eddie went to a strip of town where all of the rich people used to live he loved to look at the houses when he was younger. He happened on a old hardware store that had a vacant lot where the kids used to play baseball. The lot was all grown over with weeds and garbage but Eddie went in anyways. At the back of the lot there was a fence and behind that fence was the Barrens. Eddie turned to leave but then It struck again. The lot transformed into what it was when Eddie was a little boy, and a bunch of Zombie-like creatures dug them selves out of the ground. Eddie shot out of there like a gun. The leper was standing on the corner waiting for Eddie. . . Bev decided to go see her old house. She thought that maybe her dad still lived there, they hadn't talked in at least 5 years. When Bev reached the doorbell and read the name it said Marsh! Her name! She rang the door bell and an old lady answered the door. The lady told Bev that her father died 3 years ago but she was welcome to come inside and have a cup of tea. When the Lady gave Bev her tea she noticed that the tea looked "muddy." She looked questionably at the Lady, but it wasn't the lady, it was a witch, and the house had turned into candy, it was the witch from Hansel and Gretel. Bev sprinted from the house and the witch followed. Bev ran across the street and when she turned around Pennywise was on the porch, laughing. Something brushed Bev's leg. It was a yellow balloon floating down the street. Richie went to The central park to think things over. he remembered when he was a kid and a statue was put up for Paul Bunyan in the park. One day while running away from Henry Bowers Richie sat on a bench next to the huge statue of Paul. He was reading a bulletin board when the statue came to life! Well the same thing happened while Richie was pondering where to go, except for the statue turned into the clown. Bill was the only one that didn't see It that day but he swore he saw a ghost. He was walking down the road when he decided to ask a little girl what her favorite store in Derry was. She told him a thrift store was her favorite, so Bill stopped by. There were many things in the window of the store but only one thing stood out to Bill. There was a bike in the display case. It was Silver! Bill brought his old bike back to Mike's house, and started restoring it. Mike had bought a tire patch on pure intuition, because he had no bike, he said he felt like he would need it. Everything was starting to fit into place.

Chapter 10

This chapter is about what happens when the grown-ups meet after Mike calls them. They all stay at the same hotel, and Mike got reservations at an oriental restaurant so they could all meet and catch up. when they all get together, it seems for a moment that they are all still children, but as quick as it came it was gone. Mike fills them in on everything that went on in Derry after they left, including, all of the recent murders. Mike tells the group about Stan's suicide and how, since he didn't leave a note that there was knowing why he committed suicide but they all knew( it was IT). After the "Loser Club," the name they gave themselves as kids, finished talking about the murders and dark topics, they began to joke around and talk about lighter issues. Mike suggested that they take a vote to see if they wanted to do something about It or if they just wanted to pack up and go home. Everyone agreed to do something and try to kill It. Mike gave his plan and told everyone that they should split up and walk around Derry to try and get back their memories, for it seemed that no one could remember anything about their adventures as kids, except for little snips here and there. Before they left the restaurant the hostess brought out fortune cookies for everyone. As they opened the cookies their worst fears jumped out. Everyone ran out of the restaurant as an eyeball, bloody teeth, a fly the size of a small sparrow, and a cricket of the same size landed on the table. They all agreed to meet at the library at seven o' clock that evening, and all went their separate ways to explore the new Derry.

Derry: The Second Interlude

The Interludes are Mike Hanlon's journal entries on things he wants to remember after his memory fades. Mike first talks about how two more kids have been killed by what he thinks is "it." Then Mike goes on to talk about a situation that had happened with his father a long time ago. Mike's father's mom wanted him to go into the army before he lived in Derry. When Mike's dad signed up he got stationed in Derry. One day when mike was young he asked his dad to tell him about the Fire at "The Black Spot." When Mike's dad was younger he and a few friends of his made a bar because the black people of that time were not allowed into the regular bars. "The Black Spot" became very popular and soon white people started going to "The Black Spot." One night "The Legion of White Decency" (The northern version of the Ku Klux Klan) went to The Black Spot and torched the place. As Mike's dad ran away from the burning building, he saw the white robes running away. He saw the last man in the robes fall down, and was picked up by a birdthat had a sixty foot wingspan. Mike's dad described the bird as hovering, but then said it didn't hover; it floated.

It floated because it had thousands of balloons tied to each wing. After mike woke up the day after he had written that in his journal there were muddy footprints leading to where he slept, but none leading away, and tied to his reading lamp was a balloon!

Chapter 9

This chapter is about Bev's experiences with "it". She was getting ready for bed one night and went to brush her teeth when all of a sudden she heard voices coming from the bathroom sink drain. The voices called for Bev to "come float" with them. She recognized the voices as the voices of the kids that had been killed in the past few months. She was about to scream and run out of the room when a red object started coming out of the drain. It looked like a balloon but all of a sudden it popped and covered the whole bathroom with blood. At this point she screamed and her father came into the bathroom, looked around, and to Bev's disbelief, asked her what was wrong. She realized that her father couldn't see the blood! She quickly thought up a lie so her dad wouln't hit her. The next time she was with the boys, she she asked them to go with her to the bathroom to see if they could see the blood. When they got to the bathroom the boys said they could see the blood and Bev started crying. She knew that she wasn't going crazy if the boys could see it too. The boys helped Bev clean up the bathroom and then they went to the laundry mat to wash the rags that they used. It was there that Stan told his story about "it".

he said he went to the water tower to do some bird watching, when all of a sudden he heard a large "boom." The tower was usually locked because a few people had died when they fell into the water (the town used to let people climb to the top for a great view of the city). When Stan looked to see what had made the boom the door to the tower was wide open. Stan didn't want to but he walked up to the door and went inside. He just stood at the bottom, looking up when he heard carnival music. Then he heard footsteps, not just footsteps but footsteps that sounded like a pair of shoes had been soaked by a puddle. As Stan looked up the squish-squish footsteps got closer. Stan felt himslf climbing the stairs towards the footsteps. But then the music changed from carnival music to scary music. Stan saw a pair of feet on the stairs above him and his trance was broken. He ran back down the stairs and to the door. As he reached the door it slammed shut and Stan ran headlong right into the door. As the crature approached Stan all he could think to do was to hold his bird book up in front of his face and shout the names of the birds he could think of. He heard the footsteps stop and knew it was because the creature was bewildered more than anything else. Either way the door opened and Stan ran out of the tower. He looked back when he was far away and what looked like two decaying children stood in the doorway. They called out to Stan "to float with them."

Chapter 8 (cont)

A few days after the movies Bill was walking Richie home when he said that he wanted to kill the thing that killed his brother. Bill wanted to go to the house where Eddie saw the leper and see if "it" was still there. When Richie asked how Bill planed to kill the monster, Bill replied that he was going to steal his fathers hand gun and try to shoot it. The next day the plan went down. Bill stole his fathers gun but also brought his slingshot as backup. Bill and Richie rode double on Bill's Bike which he nick-named "Silver." When they reached the house Richie and Bill climbed under the porch where Eddie had seen the leper. There was nothing there. Bill spotted a basement window and climbed in determined on getting revenge for his brother's death. Richie climbed in after Bill, and they began to search the basement for any signs of the monster. They were just about to leave when the door leading to the basement flew open streaming light into the dark room. A pair of loafers appeared on the steps, followed by faded jeans and a pair of hands. . . except the hands weren't hands, they were paws! "It" was a werewolf! It started chasing Bill and Richie around the basement until Bill shot it with his pistol. The thing howled in pain as part of it's skull was ripped off and blood poured down the side of it's head. The boys scampered up a pile of coal used to heat the house and escaped through a window- but It didn't give up, It chased Bill and Richie all the way to Bill's bike and ran after them as they peddled away. It was fast enough to catch up to Richie and slam his head with it's paw which knocked Richie out. Bill kept peddling shouting " Hi-yo Sliver AWAY!" (Bill always said that to make the bike go faster). When Bill reached the end of the street they were on Bill chanced a look back, and what he saw made him slam on the brakes. The street was empty behind him...except for a flash of orange that was the clown suit behind the last house on the street. Bill realized that Richie was passed out and tried to wake him. Bill woke up the delirious Richie who asked what happened- but realized and started to freak out. Bill calmed him down and told him everything was alright. But Richie started to cry and soon both of the boys were sitting in the middle of the street bawling.

Chapter 8

This chapter starts out as Richie is driving back to Derry after he received the call from Mike. He passes the sign that says he's entering Derry, and all of a sudden has to stop the car because he is flooded with old memories. As he is lost in his thoughts a deer walks out into the middle of the road and Richie yells at the deer in one of his voices to get out of the road. The deer gets startled and runs away off the road. Richie starts to laugh and has no idea why, but he can't stop either. He flashes back to the day when they built the dam and the police had come to tell them to take it down. He remembered how Ben had stepped forward and told the police man that it was all his fault that the dam had flooded all the way up to the town, and how Bill had also stepped forward and said that it was his idea also and one by one the whole group of friends stepped forward and said it was their fault so the others would not get in trouble. The police knew what they were doing so he let them off easy and just told them to take down the dam but he also told them that they could still come down to the Barrens, as long as they came as a group, because of the murders going on.
Richie tells Bill that he wants to see the album that winked at Bill so he could believe too. One day after playing in the Barrens Richie and Bill go to Bill's house and take out the photo album. They flip through the album but when they reach the spot where the picture of Georgie was that winked at Bill, they discovered that it was gone. They stared unbelievably at the album, but then the pages started flipping by themselves! The album opened to an old picture of Derry where people where walking around. As Bill and Richie looked at the picture they noticed two people in the picture that looked just like them! The more they looked the more frightened they became and just as they were about to shut the album the picture started to move! The person that looked like Richie pointed to the canal in town and the two boys walked over to it. They were looking down when all of a sudden a clown jumped out of the canal and grabbed the boy that looked like Bill. Bill and Richie both jumped not only because of the clown but the clown also had the head of Georgie! Bill, in real life, screamed and reached for the picture but instead of touching the glossy film his hand went inside the photo! Richie and Bill both screamed again and as Bill withdrew his hand he became aware of an excruciating pain in his hand. Bill looked at his hand and it looked like he had been attacked by a razor blade. Bill nor Richie told their parents about the incident.
A few days after the album incident Richie invited Ben to go to the movies with him. On his way to the theatre Richie saw Beverly Marsh sitting on a bench eating ice cream. When Richie said hello he noticed Bev had a fresh bruise on her cheek. He felt bad but he also admired her looks so he asked her to go with him to the movies. When they got to the theatre Ben was nowhere to be found. All of a sudden he came jogging around the corner and explained that he had seen Henry Bowers and his goons going into the theatre so he kept out of sight. When Ben saw Bev he started to blush because he had a crush on her. Once inside the theatre the group sat far away from Bowers' gang to keep out of trouble, but as the movie ended Bowers caught sight of Ben and Richie as they were leaving. Ben decided to go out the side door so they wouldn't see Henry, but they were out smarted. Bowers was waiting for the group in the alley where the side door let out. Ben shuddered and tried to go the other way but it was a dead end. Bowers starting running at Ben to beat him up but Bev stood in his way. Bowers mearly pushed her aside. As Bowers ran by, Richie stuck out his foot and bowers hit the Pavement hard. The group of three ran to the Barrens were they knew they would be safe. While they were there Bill showed up with a friend of his from his speech therapy class. Bill had a speech impediment that made him studder uncontrollably when he talked. From the look on Bill's eyes he accepted Bev into the group of friends but the boy that he had brought with him was not going to be with the group of friends. He may come back once or twice but he didn't see the clown or whatever "it" was.

Chapter 1-7

Right now I am on the eighth chapter. So far this novel has been very exciting. The beginning of the book starts out as one of the main characters, Bill Denbrough, is making a paper boat for his little brother,Georgie. What Bill didn't know is that "It" was waiting for Georgie. Georgie ran down the sidewalk following his boat in the runoff in the street unexpectedly. All of a sudden Georgie's boat fell into a storm drain. As Georgie started to cry a figure appeared in drain. It was a clown! Because Georgie was only five, he didn't see the immediate danger of a "person" in the drain. The clown said it would give the boat back but when Georgie went to reach for it the Clown ripped Georgie's arm off and Georgie bled to death in the street. The Creature that had killed Georgie now returned twenty-five years later, to feed.

Another of the main characters, Mike Hanlon, promised to stay in the town of Derry, where the characters lived as children. When It returned he called the group of childhood friends he had back to Derry to kill the thing once and for all. The First person Mike called was Stan Uris, but upon remembering what had happened twenty-five years ago, committed suicide. As he died in his bathtub from slitting his wrists Stan wrote in blood on the wall: IT. Next Mike called Richie Tozier. Richie was in Hollywood, a big star. He could imitate voices and used his talent to do his T.V. show. Richie didn't kill himself but did start vomiting went he heard the news. Next Mike called Ben Hanscom. Ben was an accomplished engineer. After he heard the news he went to the local bar and started drinking. Even though he drank tremendous amounts the bartender swore he was sober. After Ben, Mike called Eddie Kaspbrak. Eddie was a driver for famous people. Eddie still lived with his mother. When Eddie said he was going back to Derry, his mother became so worried, for she still thought of Eddie as a child. Eddie finally convinced his mother that he would be fine, so she let him go. After Mike called Eddie he called Bev Rogan, the only girl in the group. Bev was a designer who had been beaten as a child, by her father. When she got older she married a man who also beat her. She thought it was because she was used to the beatings so she went back to it. When Mike called Bev, she started packing right away. Her husband told her to stop packing and get back into bed but she wouldn't, so he started beating Bev again. That was when Bev snapped; she started fighting back and broke a glass mirror over her husbands head, and as he was bleeding on the floor, she left, for good. Lastly Mike called Bill Denbrough. Bill was an accomplished writer living in the U.K. His wife Audra couldn't believe her ears when Bill said he was going to leave to go back to the town of Derry where he grew up, where Georgie died, and where a lot of bad memories happened. Audra was more understanding than Bev's husband though and let Bill go even though he had just been asked to direct a movie based on a book he had written.

The next few chapters starting with chapter four are a series of flashbacks. The first flashback was by Ben Hanscomb. He remembered how he met Bill and Eddie one day down in the barons of the town. One day the bully of the school, Henry Bowers, asked Ben if he could cheat off of Ben's test but Ben wouldn't let him. Because Henry couldn't cheat off of Ben, he failed the test and the class.Henry swore that he would get revenge for failing the class if was the last thing he did. so he and his friends waited for Ben after school and started to beat him up. Ben somehow got away and ran to the Barrens, where he hid from Bowers. Bowers found Bill and Eddie in the Barrens, trying to look for Ben, and decided to ruin their day. Bill and Eddie were building a dam in the stream but when Bowers came he kicked the dam apart. After Bowers and his goons left Bill and Eddie alone Ben came out of hiding. Eddie was having an asthma attack and needed his inhaler. Bill asked Ben to stay with Eddie while he went to get the medicine. When Bill got back Eddie had calmed down and Ben asked hem what they were trying to do. Ben came up with a plan to build a dam and told Bill and Eddie how to do it, and the three boys quickly became friends. In the next few days they gathered all of the materials to make the dam. Once they built the dam they had flooded all of the Barons. Even the police had to come and tell them to take the dam down because it was backing up the sewer pipes. By that time Richie and Stan Uris had come down to see what all of the water was doing flooding the barons. Richie and Stan were already friends with Bill and Eddie but they didn't know Ben. Soon they were also good friends. They soon all realized that they had something to do with "it," and began telling each other of their experiences. Bill was looking at Georgie's photo albums and all of a sudden a picture of Georgie smiled and started winking at Bill. Eddie told about his experience with "it" next. He said that he had been walking by an abandoned house and a leper had lept out of the house and tried to solicit sex with eddie, and as Eddie scrambled away the leper turned into a clown and started laughing.
